Subtally: what your subscriptions really cost per year
Eleven here, nine there, fifteen somewhere else. Subtally adds them into one yearly number and warns you before each charge.
Open SubtallyWhat it does
You log a subscription once: name, price, the currency it is charged in, how often it charges and the date of the next one. Subtally restates everything as a yearly figure, so a monthly music service and an annual domain renewal end up in the same column and can finally be compared.
The number at the top is the one that matters — what the whole set costs in a year, and what that comes to per month. Sort by yearly cost to see which one is worth dropping, or by soonest charge to see what is about to leave your account. Anything you are unsure about can be paused or archived instead of deleted.
How to use it
- Add a subscription: name, price, billing cycle and the next charge date.
- Choose how early you want warning: a day, three days or a week before.
- Repeat for the rest. The yearly total grows as you go, which is the point.
- Sort by yearly cost to find the expensive ones, or by soonest charge to see what is next.
- Pause or archive anything you cancel, so the history stays without skewing the total.

What makes it different
It never touches your bank. There is no account to connect, no card to read, no permission to grant: you type in what you pay, and it stays in your browser’s own storage.
Reminders go through your calendar rather than the app. Subtally hands you a calendar event for the chosen number of days before the charge, so the warning arrives even if you never open Subtally again. There is also an optional shortcut that reads a statement you downloaded yourself and suggests subscriptions from it; it needs your own free Gemini key, and the app states plainly that the file goes to Google.
Questions
- Does it connect to my bank?
- No, and it cannot. There is no bank link of any kind. The optional import reads a file you downloaded from your bank yourself, and even that is a shortcut you can skip entirely — typing subscriptions in by hand always works.
- How do the reminders work?
- Subtally puts an event in your own calendar for the day you chose before the charge. That means the reminder does not depend on the app being open, installed, or even still on your phone.
- Where is my data kept?
- In your browser’s storage on that device. The About Subtally screen exports a backup file, which is worth doing: clearing the site’s data deletes everything, and there is no copy on a server to restore from.
- Which currencies does it take?
- Twelve, from dollars and euros to reais and Norwegian kroner, and each subscription is recorded in the one it is actually charged in.
